Epic Fish: Winter Catch — count the wilds, not the waves

Every Wild collects visible fish values, while three, four or five Bonus symbols select different free-spin routes. Each route has its own extension rule.

Epic Fish: Winter Catch by Quickspin is a 5-reel, 3-row, 10-line slot with Fish Collection and three free-spin modes. Every Wild on screen acts as a collector for visible Fish values. Three, four or five Bonus symbols award twelve spins but select different extension and fortified-wild rules.

The official Quickspin page and game sheet support the mechanics and configurations below. They do not confirm New Zealand casino availability, NZD support or local access to Extra Bet and Buy Feature.

Verified product facts

Quickspin lists four total RTP versions: 96.07%, 94.19%, 92.07% and 87.15%. Volatility is 4.5/5 for the 96% version and 4/5 for the others. The reference stake range is €0.10 to €100 with a €1 default.

The sheet reports largest simulated results of 5,190x, 5,154x, 5,073x and 4,964x in 100 million spins for the respective versions. The public description uses “up to 5,000x”. Keep simulation context and live maximum separate.

The game includes a 2x Extra Bet and three purchase prices—40x, 95x and 250x—with market availability caveats.

Ten paylines and Fish Collection

Ordinary combinations are evaluated on ten fixed paylines. Wild symbols substitute under the paytable and also collect Fish symbols on the same screen. Every Fish displays a value; all visible Fish values are added to the total for that spin when at least one Wild activates the collection.

The official wording says every Wild acts as a fisherman catching all Fish on screen. The live breakdown should show whether multiple Wilds collect the same Fish once or apply any additional rule. Do not multiply a Fish value merely because several Wilds appear unless the help instructs it.

Fish values are part of a settled spin, not a meter that necessarily carries forward. A high value visible without a Wild is not money owed later. The random symbol arrangement controls whether collection occurs.

Bonus symbols choose the route

Three or more Bonus symbols trigger twelve free spins. Three symbols start Winter Spins, four start Tight Lines, and five start Golden Pollock. All three modes include Fish Collection.

The source says free spins cannot retrigger in the ordinary sense. Instead, each route awards additional spins based on Wilds collected. The trigger count therefore changes the extension rule rather than the initial twelve-spin count.

Record the trigger before the animation transitions. If support is needed, the number of Bonus symbols establishes which route should have opened.

Winter Spins

Winter Spins is the three-symbol route. Every four Wild symbols collected during the bonus awards one additional free spin. The collection threshold can be reached more than once if enough Wilds appear.

Check whether the counter carries excess Wilds beyond a threshold. For example, if five are collected, the help should state whether one remains toward the next group of four. Do not infer rollover from the animation.

This mode has the smallest extension award of the three routes. That does not prove it has the lowest final payout; each spin and collection remains random.

Tight Lines

Four trigger symbols start Tight Lines. Every four Wilds collected award two extra spins. In addition, each Wild activates Fortified Wilds, sticking on its position for one extra spin.

A fortified Wild is temporary. It remains for the specified extra spin, not necessarily the entire bonus. Check whether multiple fortified Wilds overlap and when their one-spin duration begins.

Sticky Wilds can create repeat collection opportunities, but they do not guarantee Fish symbols will land. The result still depends on the new arrangement and paytable.

Golden Pollock

Five trigger symbols start Golden Pollock. Every four Wilds collected award three extra spins, and Wilds activate the Fortified behaviour. A Golden Fish can land on any reel and spin, participates in Fish Collection, and increases in prize each time it lands.

The Golden Fish value can grow, but it must be caught by a Wild on the same spin to contribute under the published collection rule. A large displayed value without collection is not a pending balance.

Check when the Golden Fish resets and whether a fortified Wild can catch it on its additional spin. The live help should settle these sequence questions.

Extra Bet

Extra Bet doubles the default stake and increases the chance of Bonus symbols according to Quickspin. The certain effect is a 2x cost. The feature is still random, and the mode reached still depends on whether three, four or five Bonus symbols land.

Before enabling the switch, check the total deduction and active RTP. Do not assume doubled cost doubles the chance in a simple one-to-one ratio unless the help publishes that number.

The extra stake can accelerate loss even when the average animation lasts longer. Count money, not spins, when enforcing a limit.

Three Buy Feature prices

The 40x purchase enters the bonus with three or more scatters using the corresponding natural-trigger distribution. The 95x route uses four, while 250x uses five. All deliver twelve starting spins and the same route rules as chance triggers.

Availability varies by market. The game sheet does not confirm New Zealand access. A 250x decision can consume a large budget instantly: at a $2 illustrative stake it costs $500. This arithmetic is not an NZD-support claim.

The price does not guarantee a return equal to cost. Read the buy-mode RTP if disclosed and verify that promotion rules permit purchased features before opting in.

Four RTP configurations

The published totals are 96.07%, 94.19%, 92.07% and 87.15%. The live game help should identify the version. Do not publish “96% RTP” as a universal fact.

Base and free-game contributions change across configurations, as do hit frequency and simulated maximum results. Those differences cannot be identified by watching a short session. The Game ID or information panel is required.

RTP does not guarantee a personal return. Volatility near the top of Quickspin’s scale indicates uneven outcomes and concentration in less frequent events.

Maximum payout wording

The largest sheet result is 5,190x for the 96% simulation, while the promotional page uses up to 5,000x. The exact live maximum must come from the deployed rules. The other RTP simulations produce smaller observed maxima.

Never use the top figure as a likely goal. A maximum lacks meaning without probability, and the provider’s test sample is not a schedule for live play. Operator payout limits and promotion caps are separate.

Example collection sequence

Suppose four Bonus symbols start Tight Lines with twelve spins. A Wild and several Fish land, so the Wild collects their visible values. The Wild is fortified for one additional spin. After four Wilds have been collected across the feature, two spins are added.

If another group of four is completed, the same extension rule can apply according to the active help. The bonus ends when no spins remain because ordinary retriggering is not supported. This example explains state, not likelihood.

Mobile checks

On a small screen, Fish values must remain legible and the mode name, remaining spins and Wild counter must not overlap. Open the paytable in landscape if necessary. Do not rely on colour alone to distinguish Golden Fish from ordinary Fish.

If the session disconnects, inspect round history before wagering again. A result can settle without the full animation. Record the trigger count and feature route if support needs to reconstruct the round.

What is not confirmed

The official product source does not prove New Zealand eligibility, a casino licence, NZD, payment methods, withdrawal speed or bonus contribution. Quickspin supplies the game; the operator controls the account and funds.

Feature-buy availability and Extra Bet must be checked in the exact market. The absence of a control is not evidence of a malfunction.

Robbits expands a colour-collection grid. El Capy uses a single meter-respin route. Savannah Fortune builds reel multipliers. Epic Fish branches based on the number of triggering symbols and uses value collection.

The Quickspin guide provides the shared evidence method. Mechanic preference is not a profit strategy.

Fish Collection settlement order

The screen can contain several Fish symbols and several Wilds, but Quickspin describes one collection event: every visible Wild acts as a fisherman and catches the Fish values on that screen. The result breakdown should show whether the Fish total is added once or whether another published modifier applies. The presence of multiple Wilds should not be converted into an assumed multiplier.

Read a collection in four steps. First settle any ordinary ten-line combinations. Second identify every Wild and every Fish value on the final screen. Third apply Fish Collection according to the paytable. Fourth add the collection award to the spin total. If no Wild appears, the visible Fish values are not carried to a later spin unless the active feature explicitly creates that persistence.

The same order applies inside free spins. Fortified Wilds can remain for one additional spin in Tight Lines and Golden Pollock, creating another opportunity for collection, but each spin still has its own Fish arrangement and settlement. A retained Wild is not a retained Fish value.

Comparing the three twelve-spin modes

All routes start with twelve free spins, so the trigger count changes mechanics rather than the initial duration. Winter Spins is selected by three Bonus symbols and gives one extra spin for every four Wilds collected. Tight Lines is selected by four symbols, gives two extra spins per four Wilds and fortifies each landed Wild for one additional spin. Golden Pollock is selected by five symbols, gives three extra spins per four Wilds, includes Fortified Wilds and adds the growing Golden Fish.

This can be represented as three separate state records. Winter Spins needs a Wild counter and remaining spins. Tight Lines adds the location and one-spin lifetime of every fortified Wild. Golden Pollock adds a Golden Fish value state. Combining all three into a generic “Fish bonus” description would falsely assign fortified symbols or a Golden Fish to the three-symbol route.

The provider says ordinary retriggering is unavailable. Additional spins come from the four-Wild counter instead. Therefore, another set of Bonus symbols during free spins should not automatically be described as a retrigger without a rule in the deployed help.

Fortified Wild timing

In Tight Lines and Golden Pollock, each Wild that lands is fortified and sticks in the same position for one extra spin. The duration is deliberately short: it does not persist for the remainder of the bonus. Record the landing spin, the following spin on which the Wild remains, and the point at which the position becomes available again.

Several fortified Wilds can have overlapping lifetimes if they land on different spins. A clear audit labels each by reel, row and expiry spin. This is especially useful when a retained Wild collects newly landed Fish values while another Wild disappears after serving its one additional spin.

The Wild counter used for extra-spin awards is a separate variable. A fortified appearance on the next spin should not be counted as a new Wild landing unless the help explicitly treats it that way. Use the counter animation and round breakdown rather than counting the same retained symbol twice by sight.

Golden Fish value state

Golden Pollock introduces a Golden Fish that can appear on any reel and any free spin. It participates in Fish Collection and increases in prize every time it lands. This creates a value state that changes during the bonus, but the displayed amount is not automatically awarded: a Wild must collect it on the same screen under the published rule.

Record the Golden Fish value before and after each landing. If the symbol appears without a Wild, note the increased state and zero collection for that spin. If a Wild appears with it, record the value collected and check whether the Golden Fish resets, remains at the higher level or continues under another rule shown in the live help.

Do not infer the increment formula from two observations. The public page confirms that the prize increases; the exact ladder belongs to the active paytable. A growing display is therefore evidence of feature state, not an account balance waiting to be withdrawn.

Purchase routes as three distinct products

The 40× route corresponds to entry with three or more Bonus symbols, the 95× route to four, and the 250× route to five. Each begins with twelve spins, but the selected feature is different. A price comparison should therefore include route name, extension award, Fortified Wild availability and Golden Fish availability—not only the multiple charged.

Quickspin says the purchased features work like their chance-triggered equivalents and may not be available in every market. The active help should identify the RTP used for each purchase and the trigger distribution behind “three or more” where relevant. Do not assign the headline 96.07% value to a purchased route unless the game information does so.

The Extra Bet is separate. It doubles the base stake and increases the chance of Bonus symbols, while a purchase bypasses the ordinary trigger. A user-interface review should verify that these controls cannot be confused and that the final amount is displayed before confirmation.

Winter Catch result worksheet

Start with the paid stake, trigger-symbol count and selected bonus name. During each free spin, record the Wild locations, Fish values, collection total, fortified positions and Wild-counter progress. In Golden Pollock, add the Golden Fish value before and after the spin. Record extra spins only when the four-Wild threshold is reached.

At settlement, compare the sum of line wins and collection awards with round history. If the public “up to 5,000×” wording differs from the maximum shown in the deployed help, preserve the live contractual figure and label provider simulation results separately. The worksheet gives support a reproducible sequence without relying on the animation or assuming a missing rule.

Add the Game ID and active RTP to the worksheet header. Winter Catch has four published configurations, so a screenshot from another operator cannot establish the mathematics of the current session. Keep the ten-line base award, Fish Collection total and any bonus-extension awards in separate rows before reconciling the final result.

One completed Wild group has three different duration effects

The four-Wild threshold is shared, but its spin award depends on the selected route. Consider a hypothetical event record that starts with three scheduled spins remaining and explicitly confirms completion of one four-Wild group on the next spin. This assumes the deployed counter has already established the group; it does not infer whether a retained Fortified Wild counts as a new collection or how excess progress rolls over.

Active route Remaining before event Primary spin consumed Award for confirmed four-Wild group Remaining after event
Winter Spins 3 1 1 3
Tight Lines 3 1 2 4
Golden Pollock 3 1 3 5

The first route has received an extra spin even though its displayed remaining count stays at three: one was consumed and one added. A stationary counter therefore does not by itself prove that an award was missed. The other two routes gain one or two net remaining spins after the same consumed entry. None of these transitions implies a new ordinary twelve-spin trigger.

As a purely arithmetic follow-up, assume three subsequent primary spins produce no additional Wild-group award. The corresponding counters become zero, one and two. That is a duration comparison under an invented shared event sequence, not a probability comparison between the actual modes. Fortified Wilds and Golden Fish can change the real sequence; the table deliberately does not claim that all three routes would generate identical outcomes.

Fortified identity is separate from visible appearances

For another illustration, assume Tight Lines history records Wild W1 landing on spin four and serving its one additional spin on five. A second Wild W2 lands on five and serves its additional spin on six. With no replacement Wild or other duration-changing event at those coordinates, the display contains W1 on four, W1 and W2 on five, and W2 on six. W1 is released before six, while W2’s documented extra appearance ends before seven.

That produces four visible Wild appearances across three screens but only two distinct landing events. It is not proof of one completed four-Wild counter group. The counter’s own verified increment rule remains necessary; do not turn an appearance count into a landing count or extend both identities for the entire bonus. Conversely, a retained W1 may collect a fresh Fish on spin five without that Fish inheriting a lifetime from spin four.

Keep collection money outside the duration ledger

Suppose the first illustrated threshold spin separately reports an ordinary line award and a Fish Collection award. Those monetary credits belong to that spin. Adding one, two or three scheduled entries changes future duration, not the value already credited. A Golden Fish prize display also does not become an added spin merely because its value increases.

For reconciliation, use separate fields for unique Wild IDs and lifetimes, the counter’s confirmed four-Wild groups, spin additions, ordinary line credits and Fish credits. This distinguishes a mistaken route award from a reused Wild identity or duplicated collection amount. It leaves the live rules responsible for rollover, multiple collectors and Golden Fish resets rather than filling those gaps with an assumed “standard fishing slot” rule.

Official sources

Bottom line: the title documents ten-line play, value collection and three distinct bonus branches. It does not guarantee the Golden Pollock, local availability or a return from any purchase.

How to verify the version you can actually open

A provider page proves that a title exists and describes the supplier's intended rules. It does not prove that a casino accepts players in New Zealand, that the title is enabled for a particular account, or that the highest published RTP is the version in the lobby. Treat availability, operator eligibility and product configuration as three separate checks.

Start with identity, then configuration

Open the game only through the authenticated casino lobby. The information or help panel should identify Quickspin, the exact title and the active mathematical return. Compare the reel or grid layout, paylines or cluster rules, named features and symbol behaviour with the official product material. Similar artwork or a matching title is not enough when the help file is missing or inconsistent.

When the supplier publishes several RTP values, report all of them as configurations. Do not assume the highest option is deployed. RTP is a theoretical long-run measure across a very large number of rounds; it is not a refund rate for one player and cannot predict the next result. Volatility is different: it describes how unevenly results are distributed on the provider's scale.

Read stake controls as money, not interface decoration

Provider sheets often quote a reference range in euros. That range does not establish New Zealand-dollar support or the limits in a specific account. Before a paid round, identify the total amount that will leave the balance. If the interface separates denomination, coins and lines, verify the combined total. If Extra Bet is active, calculate its full cost before pressing spin.

Feature-buy prices are multiples of the current bet, not promised returns. A 100x purchase at a $1 stake costs $100; at a $2 stake it costs $200. Availability can vary by market and some mathematical configurations may not support the control. If the live help does not explain the price, delivered feature and active RTP, leave the option unused.

Keep simulation figures in their proper scope

A game sheet may publish a maximum result observed in a large simulation. That is not automatically the contractual maximum payout and never describes a likely session. Preserve the provider's wording, sample size and configuration. Check the live rules for a binding cap and the operator terms for any separate payout limit. Do not turn an extreme result into a promotional headline.

Audit a disputed round

If an animation freezes or a connection drops, do not repeat the wager immediately. Reopen the game through the authenticated lobby and inspect round history. Record the time, total stake, balance movement and round identifier. The result can be settled by the gaming system even when the device never displays the final animation. Send evidence through verified operator support; never disclose a password, recovery phrase or one-time code.

Read the paytable as a calculation document

The paytable should explain what creates a win, which symbols substitute, where special symbols can land and how multiple awards combine. For line games, confirm direction and active paylines. For cluster games, confirm adjacency, minimum group size and the order of collection. For respins, identify what remains locked, what resets the counter and what ends the feature. A graphic effect can illustrate those rules but cannot replace them.

Separate addition from multiplication. Several prize values may be added before a multiplier applies, while reel-specific multipliers can sometimes multiply together only when each reel participates in the same win. Reconstruct one low-stake result from game history. If the arithmetic cannot be matched to the help file, stop and ask the operator rather than guessing.

Do not confuse hit frequency with a profitable round

Provider sheets can publish hit frequency or category probabilities. A hit simply means a round returned a qualifying amount; it can be smaller than the stake. “Big”, “Mega” or “Epic” thresholds are provider reporting categories, not promises. They are useful for comparing mathematical versions only when definitions and samples are the same.

Random outcomes do not become due after a long gap. A feature that appeared repeatedly in a demo or marketing clip has no obligation to repeat in a funded session. Previous rounds do not create a debt from the next random result.

Confirm market and device behaviour independently

A title can exist in the supplier catalogue while an operator disables it for a territory, currency, device or bonus. Language localisation is not evidence of legal availability. Confirm the operator's identity, accepted countries and current lobby separately from the provider review.

On mobile, verify that balance, total bet, feature state and help remain visible without overlap. On desktop, check that browser zoom does not hide a purchase control or change the apparent denomination. Mathematical configuration should not change merely because the screen changes; if the help shows another RTP, treat it as a different deployment and record it.

Keep a compact evidence record

For any fact used in a review, save the title, provider, official URL, document date when available, access date and exact territorial scope. For a live session, add the operator domain, Game ID, RTP, currency and a non-sensitive screenshot of the help panel. This makes later corrections possible when a supplier updates a sheet or an operator changes configuration.

Missing information should remain missing. Do not estimate an RTP from results, convert a euro reference range into an operator's NZD limit, or treat another casino's configuration as evidence. A transparent “not confirmed” is more useful than a precise-looking number without the correct source.

Use limits that survive the feature design

Collection meters, expanding grids, sticky symbols and near misses can make a session feel unfinished. Unless the rules explicitly preserve progress, the visible state has no value after the round or feature ends. Set a money limit and time limit before launch, count feature buys immediately, and stop at the limit even when a meter appears close to an upgrade.

No random game is an income plan. Do not borrow, use essential funds or raise the stake to recover a loss. If play stops feeling recreational, use timeout, deposit-limit or self-exclusion tools and consult the site's responsible gambling guide.

Primary source and correction path

This guide separates documented product information from market availability. Check the official source and the game help inside the exact version offered before making a decision.
