Marlin Madness — chart three routes before casting

Fish values feed one collection system, while three, four or five Bonus symbols select progressively stronger Black Marlin rules and different starting spins.

Epic Fish: Marlin Madness by Quickspin is a 5-reel, 3-row slot with ten paylines. Wilds collect visible Fish values, Shark Attack can transform low-paying symbols, and the bonus has three entry levels: Black Marlin, Nudge Up and Hooked.

The official Quickspin page and game sheet support the rules below. They do not confirm New Zealand access, NZD staking or market availability for Extra Bet and Buy Feature.

Verified product facts

Quickspin publishes total RTP configurations of 96.12%, 94.19%, 92.07% and 84.21%. Volatility is three out of five for the first two, 2.5 for the 92% model and two for the 84% model. The reference stake range is €0.10 to €100 with a €1 default.

The sheet reports hit rates from 24.58% to 24.07% and largest results of 7,673x, 7,620x, 7,520x and 5,559x in 100 million spins. These are simulation observations, not a promise that a session can or will reproduce them.

Optional routes cost 2x for Extra Bet and 45x, 100x or 200x for the three feature entries. Availability varies by market.

Ten paylines and Fish values

Ordinary symbol wins use ten fixed lines. Fish symbols are also regular paying symbols in three sizes. Published Fish multipliers include 1x, 3x, 5x, 8x, 10x, 15x and 25x.

The Wild substitutes for ordinary symbols and acts as the Fisherman during Fish Collection. Every Wild collects visible Fish values, which are added to that spin’s total. Check the live help for how several Wilds treat the same Fish; do not multiply a value without an explicit rule.

A Fish can be visible without being collected. Its displayed value is not a balance, stored promise or indication of the next spin.

Shark Attack

Shark Attack can trigger randomly in the base game when a Wild is present. A shark removes low-paying symbols and replaces them with Fish, after which the Fisherman Wild collects them.

The sequence is one settled round. The replaced symbols and resulting Fish values should appear in round history. A shark animation alone does not prove that every position changes or that a particular value must be awarded.

Because Shark Attack is described as random, recent non-triggers do not make it due. Budget decisions should use total spend rather than waiting for the animation.

Bonus symbols set the starting mode

Three Bonus symbols award ten Free Spins and Black Marlin. Four award twelve spins and Nudge Up. Five award fourteen spins and Hooked. Free Spins cannot be retriggered through ordinary Bonus symbols.

Each mode includes a Wild meter. Six collected Wilds add two spins and upgrade to the next mode. Twelve Wilds add another two spins and unlock the final mode.

The original trigger count therefore affects both starting spins and active mechanic. Save that count if a feature dispute occurs.

Black Marlin mode

Partial or full Black Marlin appearances increase the Marlin multiplier. Only a fully visible Marlin is collected. The official range runs from 30x to 5,000x.

An increased multiplier does not mean the fish has been caught. The full symbol must meet the collection condition. A partially visible fish can advance the displayed value yet leave no collected prize under this first mode.

Collecting six Wilds promotes the feature to Nudge Up and adds two spins.

Nudge Up

Nudge Up begins from four Bonus symbols or after six Wilds. If a Black Marlin appears partially or below the grid, it moves upward by one row. The nudge can make a full fish visible, but it remains subject to the exact final position.

The nudge is a defined movement, not a guarantee that every partial fish completes. Check whether the symbol starts close enough to the play area and use the settled layout.

Six more collected Wilds unlock Hooked and add two spins.

Hooked

Hooked begins from five Bonus symbols or twelve Wilds. If a full Black Marlin is not caught, it stays sticky for one spin, increasing the opportunity for a complete symbol on the next evaluation.

One-spin persistence is not permanence. Record when the sticky state begins and ends. The fish can remain incomplete after the additional chance.

This final mode includes the earlier collection and upgrade logic. It should not be described as a separate jackpot or guaranteed top-prize round.

Extra Bet

Extra Bet doubles the stake and adds an extra row. Quickspin says it increases opportunities for Fish symbols, Fish Collection and Black Marlin progression. If Free Spins trigger, the extra row carries into the feature.

The known effect is a 2x cost and a larger grid. The source does not publish a simple return guarantee. Extra Bet and Buy Feature cannot be active together.

Check the total deduction and active RTP after switching modes. A larger visual field can make spend less noticeable, so use currency rather than spin count as the session measure.

Three Buy Feature prices

The 45x route enters Black Marlin with three Bonus symbols. The 100x route enters Nudge Up with four, and the 200x route enters Hooked with five. Each price is a multiple of the current bet.

At an illustrative $1 stake, those costs would be $45, $100 and $200. That example does not confirm NZD support. A direct entry can settle below its purchase price.

Before using any buy control, verify market availability, delivered starting spins, active RTP, contribution to promotion rules and the maximum one-click loss against the budget.

RTP and maximum figures

Four model panels, not four spin-entry probabilities

The official model page pairs each identifier with base and free-game return contributions. Record all three return columns together:

Game ID Base contribution Free-game contribution Printed total
epicfishmarlinmadness 52.36% 43.77% 96.12%
epicfishmarlinmadness94 51.29% 42.90% 94.19%
epicfishmarlinmadness92 50.13% 41.94% 92.07%
epicfishmarlinmadness84 45.81% 38.40% 84.21%

The first components add to 96.13%, 0.01 percentage point above the printed 96.12%; the other three reconcile. Preserve that small discrepancy instead of replacing a supplier number or inventing its cause. Contributions describe where theoretical return sits in a model, not the probability of a Marlin, collection or mode upgrade. Likewise, the hit-rate row is not an identified Black Marlin catch rate.

All four panels show the same euro stake range and default but different return, hit-rate, volatility and observed maximum fields. Common artwork, grid height or stake alone cannot select the model. Extra Bet is a separate mode choice, while buying a feature excludes simultaneous Extra Bet under the supplier rule; neither control proves that the highest-return panel is active.

A threshold crossing is not another Scatter trigger

Use a hypothetical naturally triggered Black Marlin feature whose actual history already confirms five collected Wilds and two remaining spins. This is an arithmetic example, not a prediction of the next Wild or an assertion that every trigger starts with that meter value.

Observation Mode and meter before Updated meter Counter calculation
One completed spin collects two Wilds Black Marlin, five Seven: crosses six 2 − 1 + 2 = 3
A later recorded state has eleven Wilds and one spin left Nudge Up, eleven No new event yet Keep one; do not bank an assumed upgrade
That final scheduled spin collects one Wild Nudge Up, eleven Twelve: crosses twelve 1 − 1 + 2 = 2

The first event reaches Nudge Up and the second reaches Hooked. Two Wilds in the first row do not grant four extra spins: the documented two-spin award belongs to the six-Wild threshold, not each individual Wild. The meter also does not reset to zero merely because a mode changes; the twelve-Wild threshold is a cumulative reference in this example.

Both extensions are meter events despite the rule that Bonus symbols cannot retrigger Free Spins. Save the mode transition and the particular threshold already paid. A later value above six is not a fresh crossing of six, and adding that earlier award again would create an unsupported extra two spins. If multiple transitions occur in one live result, the abbreviated source does not supply a complete simultaneous-event order; consult that version’s history rather than stretching this separate-event example.

Keep the fish record beside, not inside, the spin counter. A partially visible Marlin may increase its multiplier without a collection. Nudge Up moves it one row, but the post-nudge board must establish full visibility. Hooked’s one-spin retention also needs a recorded collection condition, not an automatic credit because the image remained on screen.

For instance, if a hypothetical history shows a retained full Marlin at 120 bet multiples but marks it uncollected, the amount owed from that observation is not automatically 120. Only a subsequent qualifying catch and its settled award would support a currency conversion. At an illustrative 0.25 bet, a confirmed 120-bet award would equal 30.00 before separate limits; the visible value alone cannot establish that payment.

The live information screen must identify one of the four configurations. Do not take the highest published version as the default. Visual features can remain identical while mathematical settings differ.

Quickspin’s 100-million-spin results are useful evidence about the supplier’s model, but they do not state a probability of personally reaching the maximum. The Black Marlin multiplier reaching 5,000x is also a feature parameter, not a guaranteed final round win.

Separate the Fish multiplier, line wins, feature total and any operator payout limit when checking a result.

Mobile and round-history checks

On mobile, the Fish value, full-versus-partial Marlin, Wild meter and remaining spins must remain legible. Use landscape mode if the extra row compresses the labels.

If play disconnects during Shark Attack or a sticky fish, inspect round history before starting another wager. Save the round ID, mode, meter count, multiplier, stake and credited result for support.

The provider material does not prove New Zealand casino availability, local licensing, NZD, payment options or withdrawal processing. Those claims belong to the operator.

Epic Fish: Winter Catch uses three routes with fixed twelve-spin starts and different Wild-extension rules. The Grim Reaper uses value collection with ritual tiers. The Quickspin guide explains how to verify the deployed version.

Fish values and Shark Attack

Fish symbols are regular paying symbols with published multiplier values of 1×, 3×, 5×, 8×, 10×, 15× and 25×. A Wild acts as the fisherman and collects every visible Fish value, adding the collection to the spin win. Keep the ordinary line value and collected multipliers separate in the result record.

Shark Attack can occur randomly in the base game when a Wild is present. The shark removes low-paying symbols, replaces them with Fish and then allows the Fisherman Wild to collect. The correct sequence is removal, replacement, collection and settlement. Fish created by the attack are not carried to a future spin.

The feature description does not turn Shark Attack into a guaranteed event whenever a Wild lands. Record the actual activation and resulting Fish values. If several Wilds are present, use the paytable to determine whether collection occurs once or under another documented rule.

Progressive free-spin modes

Three Bonus symbols award ten spins and Black Marlin mode. Four award twelve and Nudge Up. Five award fourteen and Hooked. Each later mode builds on the prior one, so Nudge Up retains Black Marlin behaviour and Hooked retains both earlier mechanics.

The Wild Meter tracks collected Wilds. At six, the feature adds two spins and advances to Nudge Up. At twelve, it adds another two spins and advances to Hooked. Those upgrades allow a three-symbol trigger to reach the later modes during the same feature. Scatters do not retrigger free spins.

Record trigger tier, starting spin count, meter count and active mode separately. When the meter crosses a threshold, change the mode before interpreting subsequent Marlin symbols.

Partial and full Black Marlin states

Every partial or full Black Marlin increases the Marlin Multiplier, but only a fully visible Marlin is collected. This distinction makes position important. A partial symbol can advance the value without immediately awarding it.

In Nudge Up, a Marlin landing partly visible or below the reels moves upward by one row. Record the position before and after the nudge and whether the symbol becomes fully visible. In Hooked, a full Marlin that is not caught remains sticky for one spin, creating another collection opportunity.

The published multiplier range runs from 30× to 5,000×. The active paytable should identify how partial appearances change the value. Do not infer a linear progression or treat the displayed Marlin value as awarded until the collection condition is met.

Extra row and optional controls

Extra Bet costs twice the base stake and adds a row. Quickspin says the larger grid supports more Fish symbols, increases Fish Collection trigger chance and carries into Free Spins if the bonus starts. It also increases the chance of Black Marlin appearances and value growth.

The three purchases cost 45× for Black Marlin, 100× for Nudge Up and 200× for Hooked. Buy Feature and Extra Bet cannot be active together. Therefore, a purchased feature should not automatically inherit the extra row unless the live help explicitly provides another route.

Record grid height before and after Extra Bet activation. A 5×4 paid state should remain identifiable when free spins begin, while the ordinary configuration is 5×3. This is a concrete layout change, not merely a higher feature probability.

Marlin Madness audit worksheet

For each spin, record grid size, Fish values, Wild positions, Shark Attack state, Fish Collection award, Wild Meter and active mode. Add Black Marlin position, multiplier value, nudge or sticky status and whether collection occurred.

Include the Game ID and active RTP because the title has 96%, 94%, 92% and 84% versions. At settlement, reconcile line wins, Fish Collection and Black Marlin awards as separate components. The worksheet makes a long evolving bonus reproducible without relying on the promotional animation.

Worked mode-progression example

Suppose three Bonus symbols open Black Marlin with ten spins. The Wild Meter begins at its documented starting state. After several spins, the sixth collected Wild adds two spins and upgrades the feature to Nudge Up. From that point, partially visible Marlins can move upward one row under the Nudge rule.

If the meter later reaches twelve collected Wilds, another two spins are added and Hooked becomes active. A fully visible Marlin that is not caught can then remain for one spin. The original ten-spin entry has therefore progressed through all three modes without a scatter retrigger. The history should show two meter awards and the points where the rule set changed.

This example does not specify when Wilds or Marlins land. Its purpose is to show the state order: starting mode, six-Wild upgrade, twelve-Wild upgrade and final settlement. A review that labels all added spins as retriggers would miss the progressive design.

Ten-line settlement and collection

Marlin Madness uses ten paylines. Ordinary symbol wins are evaluated under that line table before or alongside the feature operations shown in the help. Fish Collection adds visible Fish multipliers when a Wild acts as Fisherman. Shark Attack can change the board before collection by replacing low symbols with Fish.

For each result, preserve the pre-attack board when possible, the Fish created, every Wild position and the final ten-line combinations. Then list the collection award. This distinguishes a Fish symbol’s normal line value from the multiplier printed on it for collection.

The Wild substitutes for ordinary symbols but not Bonus symbols. It cannot be counted as an extra scatter when selecting the free-spin route. Similarly, a Black Marlin is governed by its own visibility and collection rule rather than the ordinary Fish values.

RTP and maximum fields

The four advertised RTP families must be tied to the active Game ID. The public page mentions a Black Marlin range up to 5,000×, but the live rules should identify whether that is a symbol value, feature cap or full-round maximum in the deployed version.

Keep provider simulation results, promotional “up to” wording and contractual maximum in separate fields. Only the last one determines mandatory round termination. If the information screen changes, update the dated version record instead of silently replacing the earlier figure across every screenshot.

Mobile layout and the extra row

The ordinary 5×3 grid and Extra Bet’s 5×4 grid need different vertical space on a phone. Verify that the fourth row, Fish multipliers and partly visible Black Marlin are not hidden by the spin controls or browser toolbar. The Wild Meter and remaining-spin counter should remain visible at the same time.

During Nudge Up, a symbol below the visible reels can move into view. A cropped screenshot cannot prove the starting position, so use the round replay or full game area where available. During Hooked, mark the one-spin sticky lifetime so that a retained Marlin is not mistaken for a fresh landing.

After rotation or reconnection, recheck the selected stake and Extra Bet state. The extra row should persist into naturally triggered Free Spins only when that mode initiated the round. A purchased bonus cannot be assumed to use the larger grid because Buy Feature and Extra Bet are mutually exclusive.

The mobile result record should also retain the full Black Marlin multiplier and the collection state; abbreviated overlays are insufficient when a support review needs the exact value and mode transition.

Include the reel and row coordinates of every partial Marlin so the nudge path can be compared with the published one-row movement rule.

Bottom line: the trigger count chooses the starting route, while the Wild meter governs later upgrades. Read the exact state before treating a visible Marlin as collected.

How to verify the version you can actually open

A provider page proves that a title exists and describes the supplier's intended rules. It does not prove that a casino accepts players in New Zealand, that the title is enabled for a particular account, or that the highest published RTP is the version in the lobby. Treat availability, operator eligibility and product configuration as three separate checks.

Start with identity, then configuration

Open the game only through the authenticated casino lobby. The information or help panel should identify Quickspin, the exact title and the active mathematical return. Compare the reel or grid layout, paylines or cluster rules, named features and symbol behaviour with the official product material. Similar artwork or a matching title is not enough when the help file is missing or inconsistent.

When the supplier publishes several RTP values, report all of them as configurations. Do not assume the highest option is deployed. RTP is a theoretical long-run measure across a very large number of rounds; it is not a refund rate for one player and cannot predict the next result. Volatility is different: it describes how unevenly results are distributed on the provider's scale.

Read stake controls as money, not interface decoration

Provider sheets often quote a reference range in euros. That range does not establish New Zealand-dollar support or the limits in a specific account. Before a paid round, identify the total amount that will leave the balance. If the interface separates denomination, coins and lines, verify the combined total. If Extra Bet is active, calculate its full cost before pressing spin.

Feature-buy prices are multiples of the current bet, not promised returns. A 100x purchase at a $1 stake costs $100; at a $2 stake it costs $200. Availability can vary by market and some mathematical configurations may not support the control. If the live help does not explain the price, delivered feature and active RTP, leave the option unused.

Keep simulation figures in their proper scope

A game sheet may publish a maximum result observed in a large simulation. That is not automatically the contractual maximum payout and never describes a likely session. Preserve the provider's wording, sample size and configuration. Check the live rules for a binding cap and the operator terms for any separate payout limit. Do not turn an extreme result into a promotional headline.

Audit a disputed round

If an animation freezes or a connection drops, do not repeat the wager immediately. Reopen the game through the authenticated lobby and inspect round history. Record the time, total stake, balance movement and round identifier. The result can be settled by the gaming system even when the device never displays the final animation. Send evidence through verified operator support; never disclose a password, recovery phrase or one-time code.

Read the paytable as a calculation document

The paytable should explain what creates a win, which symbols substitute, where special symbols can land and how multiple awards combine. For line games, confirm direction and active paylines. For cluster games, confirm adjacency, minimum group size and the order of collection. For respins, identify what remains locked, what resets the counter and what ends the feature. A graphic effect can illustrate those rules but cannot replace them.

Separate addition from multiplication. Several prize values may be added before a multiplier applies, while reel-specific multipliers can sometimes multiply together only when each reel participates in the same win. Reconstruct one low-stake result from game history. If the arithmetic cannot be matched to the help file, stop and ask the operator rather than guessing.

Do not confuse hit frequency with a profitable round

Provider sheets can publish hit frequency or category probabilities. A hit simply means a round returned a qualifying amount; it can be smaller than the stake. “Big”, “Mega” or “Epic” thresholds are provider reporting categories, not promises. They are useful for comparing mathematical versions only when definitions and samples are the same.

Random outcomes do not become due after a long gap. A feature that appeared repeatedly in a demo or marketing clip has no obligation to repeat in a funded session. Previous rounds do not create a debt from the next random result.

Confirm market and device behaviour independently

A title can exist in the supplier catalogue while an operator disables it for a territory, currency, device or bonus. Language localisation is not evidence of legal availability. Confirm the operator's identity, accepted countries and current lobby separately from the provider review.

On mobile, verify that balance, total bet, feature state and help remain visible without overlap. On desktop, check that browser zoom does not hide a purchase control or change the apparent denomination. Mathematical configuration should not change merely because the screen changes; if the help shows another RTP, treat it as a different deployment and record it.

Keep a compact evidence record

For any fact used in a review, save the title, provider, official URL, document date when available, access date and exact territorial scope. For a live session, add the operator domain, Game ID, RTP, currency and a non-sensitive screenshot of the help panel. This makes later corrections possible when a supplier updates a sheet or an operator changes configuration.

Missing information should remain missing. Do not estimate an RTP from results, convert a euro reference range into an operator's NZD limit, or treat another casino's configuration as evidence. A transparent “not confirmed” is more useful than a precise-looking number without the correct source.

Use limits that survive the feature design

Collection meters, expanding grids, sticky symbols and near misses can make a session feel unfinished. Unless the rules explicitly preserve progress, the visible state has no value after the round or feature ends. Set a money limit and time limit before launch, count feature buys immediately, and stop at the limit even when a meter appears close to an upgrade.

No random game is an income plan. Do not borrow, use essential funds or raise the stake to recover a loss. If play stops feeling recreational, use timeout, deposit-limit or self-exclusion tools and consult the site's responsible gambling guide.

Primary source and correction path

This guide separates documented product information from market availability. Check the official source and the game help inside the exact version offered before making a decision.
