Evil Eyes — one marked win spreads right or down
The Eye first marks a completed win, then chooses direction. Only after that does the spread replace symbols across the remaining grid.
Supplier sources below. Operator eligibility needs a separate check.

Evil Eyes by Hacksaw Gaming is a five-reel, five-row ways game. The provider publishes a maximum win cap of 12,500× bet across all game modes; it is a specification ceiling, not a forecast.
Evil Eye and Evil Spread
If the Evil Eye sits below a winning symbol, it marks every symbol in that win and turns right or down. The spread replaces marked-symbol positions through the edge of the grid in that direction. If the route crosses the Eye itself, it is replaced too. A rightward spread can sometimes continue downward.
In the base game, the Eye can land only on reel three, never on row one, and no more than one can appear at once.
Wicked Night
At least three FS scatters trigger Wicked Night with three refilling lives. Only non-paying symbols, Evil Eyes and multiplier scatters appear. Each Eye looks up, right, left or down and collects multiplier symbols crossed by its gaze into the reel multiplier above their landing reel.
If one gaze crosses another Eye, a revealed multiplier is added to all reel multipliers. Multiple Eyes can appear on any reel in this mode. A successful multiplier collection resets lives to three; after three spins without a reset, the feature ends. Reel multipliers are then added and multiplied by the bet.
Graveyard and Wicked Epic Drop
At least four scatters trigger The Graveyard with ten Free Spins. Low symbols that win and are spread are removed from later spins. Two additional scatters add two spins and three add four.
Wicked Epic Drop can activate randomly at the start of a base spin and temporarily uses Wicked Night mechanics for one spin. The source guarantees at least three Eyes, four multipliers and one collection for that drop, but it has no lives and returns to the base game after evaluation.
Evidence limits
The source confirms rules and the 12,500× cap but does not publish readable RTP, stake range or New Zealand availability. Bonus-buy options are market-dependent and therefore are not treated as available locally.
A collected multiplier has an operation, not just a number
The current Hacksaw Evil Eyes description, checked on 7 October 2026, distinguishes adding multipliers from multiplying multipliers. Its adding list includes 1–10 and 15, 20, 25, 50, 100; its multiplying list is ×2, ×3, ×4, ×5 and ×10. It also specifies collection in sequence from the Eye toward the grid edge. An audit that records only “collected 3 and 2” loses the operations needed to reproduce the result.
For a hypothetical gaze, assume an existing recipient reel total of 10 and two eligible symbols assigned to that same reel ledger by the live rules. Let the nearer symbol add 3 and the farther one multiply by 2. These are permitted illustrative values, not a claimed probability, actual gaze geometry or tested outcome. The ordered calculation is (10 + 3) × 2 = 26. Reversing the operations gives 10 × 2 + 3 = 23. Turning the multiplying symbol into a second addition gives 15, which is a third and incorrect interpretation of the stated example.
| Hypothetical event | Operation | Ledger before | Ledger after |
|---|---|---|---|
| Nearer adding symbol collected | Add 3 | 10 | 13 |
| Farther multiplying symbol collected | Multiply by 2 | 13 | 26 |
The gaze direction is important because “nearer” means nearer along that resolved path, not closer to the centre of the picture. The public overview does not enumerate every possible mixed-symbol placement or overlapping-gaze priority. Check active help and history before claiming this exact two-symbol arrangement can occur. The arithmetic shows why the operation sequence must be preserved if it does.
Suppose the other four terminal reel totals are 1, 2, 0 and 4, unaffected in this exercise. Adding all five produces 26 + 1 + 2 + 0 + 4 = 33. If the documented bet basis is B = 0.40, the illustrative final value is 33B = 13.20, subject to the applicable cap—not 26 × 1 × 2 × 0 × 4. A whole-ledger revealed value from a crossed Eye is a separate adding event; it must not silently overwrite the multiplying symbol’s role or be counted once again as a sixth reel.
Equal-price controls do not mean equal rules
Hacksaw lists the following optional controls where market conditions permit. These are supplier reference prices, not proof that a New Zealand account can select them:
| Published option | Reference charge | Distinguishing rule |
|---|---|---|
| BonusHunt FeatureSpins | 3B per spin | Five times the bonus-trigger likelihood stated by the supplier; not a guaranteed trigger |
| I Spy With My Evil Eye FeatureSpins | 50B per spin | Wicked Night collection mechanics with published minimum contents and a collection |
| An Eye For An Evil Eye FeatureSpins | 50B per spin | A win and an Eye on each spin; not the same collection mode |
| Wicked Night entry | 100B | Enters the refilling-life bonus |
| The Graveyard entry | 200B | Enters the low-symbol-removal Free Spins feature |
At an illustrative B = 0.40, those charges are 1.20, 20, 20, 40 and 80. The two 20-unit controls have different guarantees. A stipulated winning event does not guarantee recovery of a 50B charge, and a fivefold relative likelihood does not establish an absolute percentage without the baseline probability. Inspect the active confirmation screen and distinguish a repeated feature-priced spin from a one-off bonus entry.
The source restricts ordinary base-game FS symbols to reels 2–5, and Graveyard FS symbols to reels 2–4. These are reel eligibility sets, not the number of symbols required or the number of distinct reels a trigger must occupy. For example, a hypothetical Graveyard counter of one followed by three qualifying FS symbols reconciles as 1 − 1 + 4 = 4 remaining spins, using the published four-spin extension. Do not subtract three merely because three symbols landed, or infer a four-symbol extension by extending the two published tiers.
Base-game Eye placement
In the base game, the Evil Eye can land only on reel three and never on row one. No more than one Eye appears at once. Record its exact coordinate before evaluating a spread.
If an image seems to show an Eye elsewhere, verify whether it belongs to Wicked Night, Graveyard, Epic Drop or an animation. Mode identity controls the placement rule.
The five-reel, five-row grid should be fully visible; a cropped top row can hide whether the restriction was satisfied.
A completed win comes first
The Eye acts only when it sits below a winning symbol. Save the stopped grid and identify every symbol in that completed win before marking anything.
The feature marks every symbol belonging to the win, then chooses right or down. A visible Eye beneath a non-winning symbol does not establish an Evil Spread.
Use the deployed ways evaluation and paytable. Visual alignment alone is insufficient evidence of a qualifying win.
Rightward Evil Spread
When the Eye turns right, each marked-symbol position spreads through the edge of the grid in that direction. Record the origin cell and every replaced coordinate on its row.
If a route crosses the Eye itself, the Eye is replaced too. Preserve the pre-state so that replacement is distinguishable from an Eye that never landed.
The provider says a rightward spread can sometimes continue downward. Record that second direction only when the event or live rules show it; do not apply it automatically.
Downward Evil Spread
When the Eye turns down, trace each marked-symbol origin through the lower edge of the grid. Save all replaced cells and the final symbol identity.
Do not extend the path to the right merely because the other direction exists. Direction is selected for the event.
If several marked symbols share a column, merge overlapping coordinates once in the mask and preserve their origins separately.
Worked base example
Suppose a qualifying win contains three marked symbols and the Eye below one of them turns right. The audit stores the winning route, three origin cells, every rightward replacement and whether any path crosses the Eye.
The final ways are evaluated from the transformed board and reconciled with round history. If no win existed before marking, the published activation condition was not met.
The example supplies no invented stake, payout or feature frequency.
Entering Wicked Night
At least three FS scatters trigger Wicked Night with three refilling lives. Save the trigger grid, scatter count, starting lives and collection board.
Only non-paying symbols, Evil Eyes and multiplier scatters appear in this mode. Record every Eye coordinate and every multiplier value before gaze resolution.
Multiple Eyes can appear on any reel here, so the base reel-three restriction does not apply.
Four gaze directions
In Wicked Night, each Eye looks up, right, left or down. Assign stable Eye IDs and record the direction before tracing crossed multiplier symbols.
Only values intersected by the gaze enter the reel multiplier above their landing reel. A multiplier elsewhere on the board is excluded.
Overlapping gaze paths require chronological event recording so the same value is not collected twice without an explicit rule.
Reel multiplier ledgers
Create five separate ledgers, one for each reel. A collected adding multiplier increases the ledger above its landing reel, not necessarily the Eye’s reel. Multiplying symbols require their distinct operation and the published Eye-to-edge collection order; do not record every collected symbol as an addition.
Store opening value, collected symbol, operation, sequence position and closing value. At feature end, add the five reel multiplier totals and multiply the sum by the documented bet. The sum-of-reels settlement does not turn every within-reel operation into addition.
The board values and reel totals are different states. Mark a collected multiplier as consumed if the live event removes it.
Crossing another Eye
If one gaze crosses another Eye, a revealed multiplier is added to all reel multipliers. Record the crossed Eye, revealed value and before-and-after state of all five ledgers.
This is a whole-ledger event, unlike an ordinary crossed multiplier that belongs to one reel. Do not limit the revealed value to the crossed Eye’s reel.
If several Eyes cross, preserve the event order and each revealed amount separately.
Refilling lives
A successful multiplier collection resets lives to three. Record lives before the spin, collected value or Eye event and counter after settlement.
After three spins without a reset, the feature ends. Do not count gaze animations as collections unless a value actually enters a reel ledger.
The terminal record should show the final unsuccessful sequence and all reel totals before payout.
Wicked Night settlement
At feature end, add the reel multipliers and apply their sum to the bet. Preserve the live definition of complete bet and any overall 12,500× cap application.
Recalculate from the ledger and compare with feature history. Do not multiply the five reel totals together.
The cap is a ceiling across modes, not an expected outcome.
Graveyard entry
At least four scatters trigger The Graveyard with ten Free Spins. Save the four-scatter grid, starting counter and version.
Low symbols that win and are spread are removed from later spins. Open a persistent removed-symbol set and update it only after a qualifying spread.
Do not remove a low symbol merely because it appeared in a win if the spread condition was not completed.
Tracking removed low symbols
After each qualifying Graveyard event, record the low symbol identity and confirm its absence from later reel states under the live rules. Keep removal order and feature-spin number.
Higher-paying symbols and special symbols should not be added to this set unless the deployed help explicitly permits it.
Clear the removed-symbol set when the bonus ends. It does not persist into paid play.
Graveyard extensions
Two additional scatters add two spins and three add four. Record coordinates and the counter before and after settlement.
Keep duration changes separate from the removed-symbol progression. One affects time remaining; the other affects later symbol population.
The source does not publish an extension for one or more than three scatters. Do not extrapolate.
Wicked Epic Drop
Wicked Epic Drop can activate randomly at the start of a base spin. It temporarily uses Wicked Night mechanics for one spin, then returns to the base game.
The provider guarantees at least three Eyes, four multipliers and one collection for that drop. Record all guaranteed elements and the actual gaze paths.
There is no refilling-lives counter. Do not continue the collection board into another spin.
Comparing Wicked Night and Epic Drop
Both use directional Eyes and multiplier collection. Wicked Night is a three-life feature whose successful collections reset the counter and whose reel ledgers grow until termination. Epic Drop is a single temporary base-spin state with published minimum contents.
Label the mode before interpreting a screenshot. The absence of lives is expected in Epic Drop, while a one-spin termination would be wrong to generalise to Wicked Night.
Clear Epic Drop reel totals immediately after settlement.
Worked Wicked Night example
Suppose two Eyes look in different directions. One crosses a 4× multiplier on reel two, adding 4 to that reel ledger. The other crosses an Eye and reveals 3×, adding 3 to every reel ledger.
The successful collection resets lives to three. The event history stores both additions separately, and final settlement later adds reel totals rather than multiplying them.
Illustrative values explain scope only and are not promised outcomes.
RTP, stakes and market-dependent modes
The official page does not expose readable RTP, minimum or maximum stake, default denomination or volatility. Collect them from the exact deployed help with title, version, operator, currency and date.
Bonus-buy options are market-dependent. Do not state they are available in New Zealand without direct operator and jurisdiction evidence.
The 12,500× cap is a technical maximum, not a replacement for missing RTP.
New Zealand availability
The provider page does not prove real-money access in New Zealand. Verify operator country terms, registration eligibility, authenticated catalogue and successful game launch.
NZD support, payments, verification and withdrawals are operator facts. Source them separately and date the check.
A demo or portfolio page is insufficient. Do not advise bypassing location controls.
Mobile and accessibility checks
On mobile, all five rows and reels, Eye direction, marked symbols, gaze paths, reel totals and counters must remain visible. Test portrait and landscape modes.
Direction and multiplier collection need labels beyond colour and animation. Reduced-motion mode should preserve arrows, masks and ledger changes. Keyboard focus must reach help, paytable and history.
After interruption, compare mode, removed-symbol set or reel totals, lives or spin counter, balance and round identifier with server history.
Support-ready evidence
For a base spread, provide the original win, Eye coordinate, chosen direction, replacement mask and settlement. For Wicked Night, provide every Eye, gaze path, collected multiplier and reel ledger transition.
For Graveyard, attach the removed-symbol history; for Epic Drop, show the guaranteed minimum elements and one-spin return to base.
Never share passwords, one-time codes, private keys or seed phrases. Ask authenticated support to inspect server events.
Session controls
Directional near-misses and growing reel totals can make another collection feel due. The published rules do not support that conclusion.
Set stake, spending and time limits before play. Do not increase stake to chase Epic Drop, an all-reel Eye reveal or the 12,500× cap.
Mechanical knowledge helps verify settlement, not predict outcomes. Use responsible-play controls and stop at the chosen boundary.
Publication checklist
- Restrict the base Eye to reel three and rows below the first.
- Require a completed win above the Eye before spread.
- Record right or down before building the replacement mask.
- Keep base spread and Wicked Night gaze collection separate.
- Preserve adding versus multiplying operations and Eye-to-edge order within the appropriate reel ledgers.
- Add crossed-Eye revealed values to all reel ledgers.
- Reset lives only after successful collection.
- Remove Graveyard low symbols only after a qualifying winning spread.
- Treat Epic Drop as one spin without lives.
- Verify RTP, stakes, modes and New Zealand access from live evidence.
Editorial assessment
Evil Eyes uses direction in three distinct ways: base spread rewrites symbols from a completed win, Wicked Night gaze collects values into reel ledgers, and Epic Drop borrows that collection system for one spin. Graveyard adds a persistent low-symbol removal layer.
A rigorous review labels the mode first, records direction before outcome and reports 12,500× only as a cap. RTP, stakes, bonus-buy access and New Zealand availability remain unclaimed until the deployed game and operator provide primary evidence.
Version comparison protocol
Keep every tested configuration attached to its operator, version, currency and date. Compare base Eye restrictions, permitted spread directions, Wicked Night gaze scope, lives reset, Graveyard removal and Epic Drop guarantees field by field. A different RTP or stake range does not prove that directional rules changed.
Archive one completed rightward spread, one downward spread, one crossed-Eye Wicked Night event and one Epic Drop with the matching help screen. These reference rounds make it possible to distinguish a true product revision from an animation frame that showed an Eye before its final position.
If two primary sources conflict, retain both dated records and request clarification. Do not merge the base one-Eye limit with Wicked Night’s multiple-Eye board or describe a market-dependent bonus buy as universally available.
Practical reader decision points
Before play, verify the live RTP, complete stake, payout cap, market eligibility and responsible-play controls. During a base spin, ask whether a valid win existed above the Eye, which direction was selected and exactly which cells changed.
During Wicked Night, follow Eye IDs, gaze directions, collected multipliers and five reel ledgers. During Graveyard, add the persistent removed-symbol set. During Epic Drop, confirm the promised minimum contents and one-spin reset. These records answer settlement questions without suggesting that a future feature is due.
After each mode ends, clear its temporary state and reconcile the server credit. Reel multipliers, removed symbols and marked spread cells do not carry into an unrelated paid round.
Direction-mask review template
For a disputed base event, draw the five-by-five grid and number reels and rows. Circle the Eye, underline the symbols in the qualifying win, draw the chosen rightward or downward rays and shade every replacement cell. Compare that mask with the settled grid.
For a Wicked Night event, use arrows from each Eye and label each crossed multiplier by landing reel. A crossed Eye creates a separate whole-ledger addition. This visual method exposes wrong direction, missed recipient and accidental double collection before any monetary calculation is attempted.
Finally, reconcile the resulting ways or reel-total arithmetic with round history. RTP should remain outside this calculation because it describes long-run theoretical return, not one directional settlement.

Bottom line: distinguish base spread, bonus gaze collection and the one-spin Epic Drop before comparing outcomes.
How to verify the version you can actually open
A provider page proves that a title exists and describes the supplier's intended rules. It does not prove that a casino accepts players in New Zealand, that the title is enabled for a particular account, or that the highest published RTP is the version in the lobby. Treat availability, operator eligibility and product configuration as three separate checks.
Start with identity, then configuration
Open the game only through the authenticated casino lobby. The information or help panel should identify Hacksaw Gaming, the exact title and the active mathematical return. Compare the reel or grid layout, paylines or cluster rules, named features and symbol behaviour with the official product material. Similar artwork or a matching title is not enough when the help file is missing or inconsistent.
When the supplier publishes several RTP values, report all of them as configurations. Do not assume the highest option is deployed. RTP is a theoretical long-run measure across a very large number of rounds; it is not a refund rate for one player and cannot predict the next result. Volatility is different: it describes how unevenly results are distributed on the provider's scale.
Read stake controls as money, not interface decoration
Provider sheets often quote a reference range in euros. That range does not establish New Zealand-dollar support or the limits in a specific account. Before a paid round, identify the total amount that will leave the balance. If the interface separates denomination, coins and lines, verify the combined total. If Extra Bet is active, calculate its full cost before pressing spin.
Feature-buy prices are multiples of the current bet, not promised returns. A 100x purchase at a $1 stake costs $100; at a $2 stake it costs $200. Availability can vary by market and some mathematical configurations may not support the control. If the live help does not explain the price, delivered feature and active RTP, leave the option unused.
Keep simulation figures in their proper scope
A game sheet may publish a maximum result observed in a large simulation. That is not automatically the contractual maximum payout and never describes a likely session. Preserve the provider's wording, sample size and configuration. Check the live rules for a binding cap and the operator terms for any separate payout limit. Do not turn an extreme result into a promotional headline.
Audit a disputed round
If an animation freezes or a connection drops, do not repeat the wager immediately. Reopen the game through the authenticated lobby and inspect round history. Record the time, total stake, balance movement and round identifier. The result can be settled by the gaming system even when the device never displays the final animation. Send evidence through verified operator support; never disclose a password, recovery phrase or one-time code.
Read the paytable as a calculation document
The paytable should explain what creates a win, which symbols substitute, where special symbols can land and how multiple awards combine. For line games, confirm direction and active paylines. For cluster games, confirm adjacency, minimum group size and the order of collection. For respins, identify what remains locked, what resets the counter and what ends the feature. A graphic effect can illustrate those rules but cannot replace them.
Separate addition from multiplication. Several prize values may be added before a multiplier applies, while reel-specific multipliers can sometimes multiply together only when each reel participates in the same win. Reconstruct one low-stake result from game history. If the arithmetic cannot be matched to the help file, stop and ask the operator rather than guessing.
Do not confuse hit frequency with a profitable round
Provider sheets can publish hit frequency or category probabilities. A hit simply means a round returned a qualifying amount; it can be smaller than the stake. “Big”, “Mega” or “Epic” thresholds are provider reporting categories, not promises. They are useful for comparing mathematical versions only when definitions and samples are the same.
Random outcomes do not become due after a long gap. A feature that appeared repeatedly in a demo or marketing clip has no obligation to repeat in a funded session. Previous rounds do not create a debt from the next random result.
Confirm market and device behaviour independently
A title can exist in the supplier catalogue while an operator disables it for a territory, currency, device or bonus. Language localisation is not evidence of legal availability. Confirm the operator's identity, accepted countries and current lobby separately from the provider review.
On mobile, verify that balance, total bet, feature state and help remain visible without overlap. On desktop, check that browser zoom does not hide a purchase control or change the apparent denomination. Mathematical configuration should not change merely because the screen changes; if the help shows another RTP, treat it as a different deployment and record it.
Keep a compact evidence record
For any fact used in a review, save the title, provider, official URL, document date when available, access date and exact territorial scope. For a live session, add the operator domain, Game ID, RTP, currency and a non-sensitive screenshot of the help panel. This makes later corrections possible when a supplier updates a sheet or an operator changes configuration.
Missing information should remain missing. Do not estimate an RTP from results, convert a euro reference range into an operator's NZD limit, or treat another casino's configuration as evidence. A transparent “not confirmed” is more useful than a precise-looking number without the correct source.
Use limits that survive the feature design
Collection meters, expanding grids, sticky symbols and near misses can make a session feel unfinished. Unless the rules explicitly preserve progress, the visible state has no value after the round or feature ends. Set a money limit and time limit before launch, count feature buys immediately, and stop at the limit even when a meter appears close to an upgrade.
No random game is an income plan. Do not borrow, use essential funds or raise the stake to recover a loss. If play stops feeling recreational, use timeout, deposit-limit or self-exclusion tools and consult the site's responsible gambling guide.
Primary source and correction path
This guide separates documented product information from market availability. Check the official source and the game help inside the exact version offered before making a decision.
