Book of Inferno — upgrade the marked symbol before it expands

A paying Marked symbol expands across its reel for an extra anywhere evaluation, while Books can upgrade which symbol is marked.

Book of Inferno by Quickspin is a ten-line, high-volatility Book game with expanding pay-anywhere Marked symbols, an upgrade step and a Free Spins bonus.

What the official source confirms

Quickspin describes the title as high volatility with a high maximum. The product page links three configuration sheets but does not print an active RTP value in the readable feature text. Check the exact live help instead of assuming the highest sheet version.

Marked symbols and upgrades

When enough Marked symbols land to pay, they expand to fill their reels and receive an additional evaluation without needing a normal left-to-right sequence.

A Book landing with a Marked symbol upgrades that marked type by one step. If the upgrade passes the highest symbol, the lowest converts into the highest. The useful evidence sequence is therefore: identify the current Marked symbol, evaluate its win, record Books, apply the upgrade, expand, then evaluate the extra result.

Books substitute for ordinary symbols and also act as the bonus trigger. Three, four or five Books award ten, fifteen or twenty-five Free Spins. The same counts retrigger the same numbers inside the feature. A random symbol becomes permanently Marked when Free Spins begin.

The published buy price is 125x for direct Free Spin entry where available. The provider notes that the control may not appear in every market.

Evidence and mobile checks

On mobile, the paytable, marked-symbol indicator and all ten line evaluations should remain accessible. Save the Game ID and active RTP before relying on a third-party review.

Book of Yuletide uses another Book structure with different selection rules. The Quickspin guide explains why related themes do not share a paytable.

Reading the ten-line base game

Book of Inferno uses ten fixed paylines. Begin a round audit with the five-reel grid, total stake and active marked-symbol indicator. Trace normal line awards from the left according to the paytable before applying the special expansion evaluation.

The Book substitutes for ordinary symbols, so mark every position where it completes a line combination. It also triggers Free Spins, but substitution does not create extra Book symbols. Feature entry requires three, four or five actual Books.

Save the first line subtotal independently. The Marked-symbol expansion can add a separate award later in the same round, and combining the two screens makes it difficult to reconstruct the calculation.

Identifying the current Marked symbol

The interface should show which paying symbol is currently Marked. Record its name or rank before the reels settle. A generic fiery outline is insufficient if several symbol tiers look similar; compare the icon with the paytable.

The Marked status determines which landed symbols can expand. Other symbols do not receive the pay-anywhere rule merely because they form a normal line win. Keep one field for current marked type and another for any type created by an upgrade.

If the indicator changes after Books appear, capture both states. The before state governs what initially landed, while the after state explains the expansion that follows under the documented sequence.

Normal line evaluation comes first

Evaluate every standard line on the original grid. Record the symbol, count, line number, Book substitutions and award. This produces the ordinary subtotal before the extra expansion stage.

The Marked symbols can themselves form a standard left-to-right line and be included in this first subtotal. Their later expanded award is a second evaluation allowed by the feature, not a reason to erase the original line result.

Do not apply pay-anywhere logic to the initial calculation. The provider explicitly describes an extra evaluation after the qualifying Marked symbols expand.

When a Marked symbol qualifies

Quickspin says that whenever enough Marked symbols land to pay, they expand to cover their entire reels. “Enough to pay” should be checked against the current paytable for that symbol and active stake.

Record all landed instances and identify the reels they occupy. A symbol count below the paying threshold should not be expanded merely because the symbol is Marked. Conversely, a qualifying set can be distributed in a way that would not satisfy the normal left-to-right rule but becomes relevant in the extra evaluation.

Use the game’s settled animation and history to confirm the trigger. Do not infer an expansion from a still promotional image.

Full-reel expansion

Each reel containing the qualifying Marked symbol is filled with that symbol for the expansion state. Capture the grid before and after the change. Positions replaced by the expansion should be marked as transformed rather than treated as newly landed symbols.

The expansion can create many visible copies, but the award still follows the game’s extra evaluation and paytable. Do not multiply the number of filled cells by an invented unit value.

The Book remains a separate symbol in the original result and can affect the upgrade rule. Record the Book count before the visual expansion obscures its starting position.

Pay anywhere in the extra evaluation

The expanded Marked symbols pay in the extra evaluation without needing to appear in a normal consecutive left-to-right sequence. This exception belongs to the Marked expansion only.

Record which reels expanded and the award displayed for the pay-anywhere result. Do not transfer the rule to ordinary symbols, Books or later games with similar Book themes.

The final round total should reconcile the ordinary line subtotal and the extra expansion subtotal. If the history provides only a combined amount, preserve the state screenshots and request the detailed calculation from authenticated support.

One Book with a Marked symbol

Any Book that lands together with a Marked symbol upgrades the Marked type by one step. Record the number and positions of Books, the original marked rank and the new rank shown after the upgrade.

The rule refers to the marked type, not a multiplier. A one-step upgrade changes the symbol selected for expansion and its paytable value. Do not add one to the award or call it ×2 without evidence.

If the original Marked symbols have already formed a paying result, use the exact on-screen order to identify whether the upgraded type or original type expands. The provider description and result history should resolve the sequence; a reviewer should not choose the more favourable interpretation.

Multiple Books and successive upgrades

Where several Books land with the Marked symbol, record every upgrade animation. Do not collapse the transition from a low symbol to a high symbol into one unexplained jump. Number the states U1, U2 and onward.

For each step, store source tier, destination tier and the Book associated with the change if the history identifies it. The final marked type determines the expanded visual state shown by the server.

The official feature text does not justify an unlimited cycle beyond the documented wrap rule. Use the actual result rather than extrapolating additional steps.

Upgrade past the highest symbol

Quickspin states that when a Marked symbol is upgraded beyond the highest symbol, the lowest symbol is converted into the highest. Capture the marked tier before the boundary, the triggering Book and every low-symbol position converted.

This is not simply a reset to the lowest tier. The low symbols on the grid become the highest symbol under the published rule. Record the conversion before evaluating the resulting expansion and awards.

Do not convert medium or unrelated symbols unless the game does so. The rule specifically identifies the lowest symbol and the highest destination.

A complete base-round chronology

Use state B0 for the original reel stop. Calculate normal ten-line wins. Use U states for each Book-driven marked upgrade, C for any lowest-to-highest conversion and E for the full-reel expansion.

The sequence record might read B0-U1-C-E, followed by ordinary and extra subtotals. This notation does not prescribe the game’s animation; it preserves what the actual history shows in a form that can be audited.

At the end, compare the sum of subtotals with the server round total and account balance change.

Three Books and ten Free Spins

Three actual Book symbols award ten Free Spins. Save their coordinates, trigger award if shown, selected permanent Marked symbol and starting counter.

The Book can substitute in ordinary line evaluation, but only its actual icon counts toward the trigger. Ten is the starting feature length before any documented retrigger.

During Free Spins, follow the same line, upgrade and expansion sequence while preserving the permanent marked type chosen at entry.

Four Books and fifteen Free Spins

Four Books award fifteen Free Spins. Record all four trigger positions and the fifteen-spin opening state. Do not combine the ten- and fifteen-spin tiers.

The random Marked symbol is selected at feature start. Save its identity before the first Free Spin, because later expanding reels can make the selection visually obvious only after an award.

If Books retrigger during the feature, use the count actually landed to determine the added tier.

Five Books and twenty-five Free Spins

Five Books award twenty-five Free Spins, the largest starting tier listed on the provider page. A full five-Book trigger should be documented across the reels before the transition.

The longer counter does not guarantee an expansion or a particular total. Every spin still requires enough instances of the permanent Marked symbol to pay under the feature rule.

Keep the starting award and later retrigger additions in separate ledger rows.

Permanent Marked symbol in Free Spins

At feature entry, a random symbol is selected as Marked and remains the expanding type during the Free Spins Bonus. Record the selected symbol and retain it in the feature header of the worksheet.

The permanent status distinguishes the feature from base-game upgrades. Do not silently replace it with another symbol unless the live game applies and records an explicit upgrade under its feature rules.

For every spin, note the count and reels of the selected symbol, whether it met the paying threshold and the resulting extra evaluation.

Retriggering the feature

Inside Free Spins, three, four or five Books award the same ten, fifteen or twenty-five extra spins as at initial entry. Capture the retrigger grid, Book count and counter before and after the addition.

Do not add ten for every three Books contained within a four- or five-Book result. One settled trigger count selects one published tier.

The permanent Marked symbol should remain associated with the continuing feature unless the game history explicitly shows a new selection.

Bought entry at 125×

Where enabled, the Buy Feature costs 125× the base bet and triggers with at least three Books at the same frequency distribution as chance entry described by Quickspin. Record the base bet, account-currency price, active RTP and confirmation.

After purchase, save the actual Book count, starting spins and selected Marked symbol. “Three or more” means the delivered trigger can show a higher tier; do not force every buy to ten spins.

The 125× amount is an entry cost, not a guaranteed feature return. Market availability must be checked in the live integration.

Natural and purchased entry comparison

A natural entry begins with one ordinary spin debit and three to five Books. A purchased entry begins with the 125× confirmation. Label the route before comparing feature results.

Both routes use the selected permanent symbol and retrigger table once Free Spins begin. Their entry evidence and account debits remain different.

Do not use a provider-level buy description to claim that a New Zealand casino enables the control.

RTP and volatility evidence

The product page describes high volatility and links configuration material but does not print the active RTP in the readable feature text. Use the deployed game’s help and Game ID to identify the exact percentage.

The linked sheet filename indicates several model families, but a filename alone is not enough to state the live configuration. If the interface omits RTP, mark it unresolved.

High volatility is a broad model descriptor, not a promise of large expansions or a schedule for Free Spins triggers.

Feature worksheet

Recommended columns are round ID, stake, RTP, state, current Marked type, Books, ordinary line subtotal, upgrade steps, converted low-symbol cells, expanded reels, extra subtotal and round total.

For Free Spins add starting tier, remaining counter, permanent symbol and retrigger additions. For a purchase add the 125× debit and delivered Book count.

This structure prevents the original Marked symbols, converted highest symbols and expanded copies from being counted together as independent landed symbols.

Worked base-game example

Suppose the current marked type appears enough times to pay and one Book is also present. Record normal line awards first. Then save the Book-driven one-step upgrade and the symbol type shown for expansion.

Fill the relevant reels in the expansion state and record the pay-anywhere award separately. If the upgrade crosses the highest tier, first capture the conversion of low symbols into the highest symbol.

The example explains order only. Actual symbols, thresholds, values and awards come from the live paytable and history.

Mobile presentation and history

On a phone, verify all five reels, the marked indicator and ten-line table remain accessible. Expansion animation should not hide the Book count or the pre-expansion grid needed to understand the result.

Use completed-round history to inspect ordinary and extra evaluations. If the history lacks the intermediate upgrade, save the live sequence with the round ID.

The Free Spins counter and selected permanent symbol should remain visible together so retriggers can be reconstructed.

Support evidence package

Provide title, Game ID, RTP, stake, round ID, original grid, marked type, Book positions, upgrades, conversions, expanded reels and both subtotals. For Free Spins include the selected symbol and counter transitions.

For a buy, add the 125× confirmation and debit. A public review image is not enough to investigate one server result, and account passwords are unnecessary.

Source and market scope

Quickspin’s page supports the ten-line structure, Marked expansion, Book upgrades, trigger table, retriggers and buy price. It does not establish a New Zealand casino listing, NZD stake range or local buy availability.

The infernal archive hero is original editorial artwork. It illustrates the sequence but cannot prove a live expansion. Date operator checks and keep Book of Inferno separate from other Book titles with different mechanics.

Before closing the record, verify that every expanded reel belongs to the marked type shown for that exact round and that no consumed upgrade state remains counted twice.

Official sources

Bottom line: record the current Marked type and any Book upgrade before evaluating the expanded result.

How to verify the version you can actually open

A provider page proves that a title exists and describes the supplier's intended rules. It does not prove that a casino accepts players in New Zealand, that the title is enabled for a particular account, or that the highest published RTP is the version in the lobby. Treat availability, operator eligibility and product configuration as three separate checks.

Start with identity, then configuration

Open the game only through the authenticated casino lobby. The information or help panel should identify Quickspin, the exact title and the active mathematical return. Compare the reel or grid layout, paylines or cluster rules, named features and symbol behaviour with the official product material. Similar artwork or a matching title is not enough when the help file is missing or inconsistent.

When the supplier publishes several RTP values, report all of them as configurations. Do not assume the highest option is deployed. RTP is a theoretical long-run measure across a very large number of rounds; it is not a refund rate for one player and cannot predict the next result. Volatility is different: it describes how unevenly results are distributed on the provider's scale.

Read stake controls as money, not interface decoration

Provider sheets often quote a reference range in euros. That range does not establish New Zealand-dollar support or the limits in a specific account. Before a paid round, identify the total amount that will leave the balance. If the interface separates denomination, coins and lines, verify the combined total. If Extra Bet is active, calculate its full cost before pressing spin.

Feature-buy prices are multiples of the current bet, not promised returns. A 100x purchase at a $1 stake costs $100; at a $2 stake it costs $200. Availability can vary by market and some mathematical configurations may not support the control. If the live help does not explain the price, delivered feature and active RTP, leave the option unused.

Keep simulation figures in their proper scope

A game sheet may publish a maximum result observed in a large simulation. That is not automatically the contractual maximum payout and never describes a likely session. Preserve the provider's wording, sample size and configuration. Check the live rules for a binding cap and the operator terms for any separate payout limit. Do not turn an extreme result into a promotional headline.

Audit a disputed round

If an animation freezes or a connection drops, do not repeat the wager immediately. Reopen the game through the authenticated lobby and inspect round history. Record the time, total stake, balance movement and round identifier. The result can be settled by the gaming system even when the device never displays the final animation. Send evidence through verified operator support; never disclose a password, recovery phrase or one-time code.

Read the paytable as a calculation document

The paytable should explain what creates a win, which symbols substitute, where special symbols can land and how multiple awards combine. For line games, confirm direction and active paylines. For cluster games, confirm adjacency, minimum group size and the order of collection. For respins, identify what remains locked, what resets the counter and what ends the feature. A graphic effect can illustrate those rules but cannot replace them.

Separate addition from multiplication. Several prize values may be added before a multiplier applies, while reel-specific multipliers can sometimes multiply together only when each reel participates in the same win. Reconstruct one low-stake result from game history. If the arithmetic cannot be matched to the help file, stop and ask the operator rather than guessing.

Do not confuse hit frequency with a profitable round

Provider sheets can publish hit frequency or category probabilities. A hit simply means a round returned a qualifying amount; it can be smaller than the stake. “Big”, “Mega” or “Epic” thresholds are provider reporting categories, not promises. They are useful for comparing mathematical versions only when definitions and samples are the same.

Random outcomes do not become due after a long gap. A feature that appeared repeatedly in a demo or marketing clip has no obligation to repeat in a funded session. Previous rounds do not create a debt from the next random result.

Confirm market and device behaviour independently

A title can exist in the supplier catalogue while an operator disables it for a territory, currency, device or bonus. Language localisation is not evidence of legal availability. Confirm the operator's identity, accepted countries and current lobby separately from the provider review.

On mobile, verify that balance, total bet, feature state and help remain visible without overlap. On desktop, check that browser zoom does not hide a purchase control or change the apparent denomination. Mathematical configuration should not change merely because the screen changes; if the help shows another RTP, treat it as a different deployment and record it.

Keep a compact evidence record

For any fact used in a review, save the title, provider, official URL, document date when available, access date and exact territorial scope. For a live session, add the operator domain, Game ID, RTP, currency and a non-sensitive screenshot of the help panel. This makes later corrections possible when a supplier updates a sheet or an operator changes configuration.

Missing information should remain missing. Do not estimate an RTP from results, convert a euro reference range into an operator's NZD limit, or treat another casino's configuration as evidence. A transparent “not confirmed” is more useful than a precise-looking number without the correct source.

Use limits that survive the feature design

Collection meters, expanding grids, sticky symbols and near misses can make a session feel unfinished. Unless the rules explicitly preserve progress, the visible state has no value after the round or feature ends. Set a money limit and time limit before launch, count feature buys immediately, and stop at the limit even when a meter appears close to an upgrade.

No random game is an income plan. Do not borrow, use essential funds or raise the stake to recover a loss. If play stops feeling recreational, use timeout, deposit-limit or self-exclusion tools and consult the site's responsible gambling guide.

Primary source and correction path

This guide separates documented product information from market availability. Check the official source and the game help inside the exact version offered before making a decision.
