Big Brown: expanding bear Wilds, multiplied substitutions and Free Games
Big Brown puts two visually related bears on the middle reels but gives them different mathematical jobs. This guide shows how to distinguish expansion, substitution and multiplier effects.
Supplier sources below. Operator eligibility needs a separate check.

Big Brown is a six-reel, four-row Endorphina slot. The official page describes 4,096 fixed paylines or pay ways, 96.08% RTP, medium volatility and a €0.05–€12.50 reference stake range. The game is marked Approved and lists Wild, Risk, Bonus Pop, Free Games, Scatter and Multiplier features.
Its defining rule is not simply “expanding Wilds”. Two bear Wilds can appear on reels two through five and expand vertically, but the Raging or Spirit Bear also doubles a win when substituting. Multiple Raging Bears multiply together. The ordinary Brown Bear Wild expands without that doubling function.

The phrase “4,096 fixed paylines” appears in supplier material, while a six-by-four all-ways calculation is often discussed as ways rather than drawn lines. Use the terminology displayed in the loaded game help. Do not invent a line selector or assume wins require adjacent symbols on a printed line map.
How to read a ways win
A ways game generally evaluates matching symbols on consecutive reels beginning from the left, but the exact rule belongs to the product help. Record the reels contributing to the win and the number of matching positions on each reel. The number of combinations can then be reconciled with the displayed result.
Do not count empty vertical space after an expansion as a new reel. A full-height Wild occupies several positions on one reel. It can increase the number of combinations, but it does not turn one reel into several independent reels.
The public page lists six buffalo symbols at 3× base bet. This is a useful high-symbol anchor, not a complete paytable. Confirm the lower counts, symbol basis and ways formula in the live version before converting any result into currency.
Brown Bear Wild
The Brown Bear Wild can land on middle reels two, three, four and five and expand vertically. It substitutes for eligible ordinary symbols. Endorphina says the Brown Bear cannot land on the same reel as a Raging Bear or Scatter.
That exclusion helps classify a screenshot. If a reel displays the Brown Bear, do not also infer an unseen Raging Bear behind its expanded frame. Save the stopped grid before expansion, because the animation may replace all four cells with one large image.
The ordinary bear does not receive the Raging Bear’s double-win rule in the supplier description. Calling every expanded bear “×2” would overstate the result. Use its exact symbol name from the live paytable.
Raging or Spirit Bear Wild
The second Wild also expands on reels two through five. When it substitutes in a win, that win is doubled. Where several Raging Bears take part, their effects multiply together. Two participating bears therefore need to be checked as a combined multiplier rather than two unrelated additions.
Participation is important. A Raging Bear visible elsewhere on the grid may not affect every winning symbol group. For each winning way, mark which Wild reels replace the target symbol and which do not. Then compare the game’s printed multiplier or credit with the documented product rule.
Avoid assuming that the number of covered cells determines the multiplier. One expanded Raging Bear occupies an entire reel but represents one ×2 substitution effect for the affected win, subject to the loaded rules. The help, not the size of the artwork, controls the calculation.
When both bear types appear
The two types can occur across different middle reels. A useful notation is B for Brown Bear and R for Raging Bear. A reel pattern such as B–R–R–empty immediately shows which substitutions can expand and which may multiply an eligible combination.
Build the result in three passes. First, identify the ordinary symbol and consecutive reels. Second, calculate the ways created by matching positions and expanding substitutes. Third, apply only the Raging Bear multiplier effects shown for that win. This order prevents expansion and multiplication from being counted as the same operation.
If several wins are displayed from one stop, audit them separately. A Raging Bear may substitute for one symbol group but sit outside another. The final round credit is the sum produced by the game, not a blanket multiplier applied to every visible award.
Free Games trigger table
The provider publishes a stepped Scatter trigger: three Scatters award 8 Free Games, four award 12, five award 16 and six award 24. This table should be checked against the live help because it determines the starting counter.
During Free Games, Endorphina states that an expanded Wild is guaranteed. Record which bear type is guaranteed or selected in the loaded game and whether the guarantee applies per feature, per spin or under another explicit condition. The public summary does not justify filling in details it does not state.
Use a counter table with starting games, spins completed, any additions and remaining games. If the feature shows expanding Wilds on several spins, preserve their type and reel locations. The guaranteed presence of a Wild does not guarantee a winning combination.
Scatter, Wild and exclusivity checks
Scatter is excluded from ordinary Wild substitution. The Brown Bear’s same-reel exclusion with Scatter and Raging Bear should be treated as a symbol-generation rule, not a reason to count adjacent reels differently.
Capture the unexpanded reels whenever possible. If a support dispute concerns a missing Scatter, a post-expansion screenshot may not show the original stop clearly enough. Video can help, but the transaction history and stored round reconstruction remain stronger evidence.
Do not use one feature screenshot to infer symbol frequency. A single round shows what occurred, not the probability assigned to each object.
Bonus Pop
Bonus Pop is listed as an optional feature, and Endorphina notes that it may depend on jurisdiction and casino. Its catalogue presence does not prove availability to a New Zealand account. A disabled or absent purchase control should be recorded as the checked state.
If offered, save the cost, confirmation screen, purchased starting state and any RTP disclosure. Compare the currency debit with the advertised stake multiple. Buying feature access does not guarantee that the feature pays more than its cost.
Do not call Bonus Pop “free spins”. It is an optional paid mode. The Scatter-triggered feature and a purchased entry can reach a similar game state through different debits and may be subject to different operator records.
Risk Game
Risk appears after an eligible win where enabled. It should be analysed after the base or feature settlement, not folded into the bear multiplier calculation. Save the amount available before accepting the gamble and each resulting step.
An operator may disable Risk. Its absence does not change the six-reel paytable, and its presence does not improve RTP for a particular session. A player can decline it and preserve the settled win.
RTP and volatility interpretation
The 96.08% provider RTP is a theoretical long-run value. It does not reveal the frequency of Raging Bears, the chance that an expanded Wild completes a way or when Free Games will trigger. Medium volatility is Endorphina’s category for the supplier listing.
If a live game displays a different RTP, publish that deployed figure with its version and date rather than replacing or averaging the public value. If no live percentage can be found, state that the operator configuration is unconfirmed.
The €0.05–€12.50 range is euro-denominated catalogue metadata. It is not a confirmed NZD range and should not be converted as if an exchange rate determined the operator’s permitted stakes.
Mobile and demo inspection
A six-reel grid can become cramped on a phone. Check whether the first and sixth reels remain fully visible, whether an expanded bear hides result labels and whether the total stake is distinct from the running win. Test portrait, landscape and enlarged text.
If the browser loses focus during Free Games, reopen the round through history before touching the spin control. A replayed expansion animation may be a restored state, not a new event. Preserve the same round ID and counter value.
Provider demo access, when permitted, is useful for locating the symbol glossary and observing expansion. It does not prove real-money availability or the setting used by a casino account.
Evidence worksheet
Record the exact title, game ID, version, operator domain, date, device, currency, total stake, live RTP and optional controls. Add screenshots of the ways rule, both Wild definitions, Scatter trigger table and multiplier wording.
For a paid result, save the original 6×4 grid. Label B and R symbols before expansion. List each winning symbol group, contributing reels, combination count and participating R bears. Compare the reconstructed subtotal with the on-screen award, then use history for the final credit.
For Free Games, keep the trigger round as the parent entry and number every feature spin beneath it. Finish with one transaction reconciliation: opening balance minus the trigger debit plus the feature’s settled credit.
Common errors
- Calling every expanded bear a doubling Wild.
- Multiplying a win by a Raging Bear that did not substitute in it.
- Treating four covered cells as four separate multiplier symbols.
- Calling 4,096 ways a user-selectable line count without help evidence.
- Using the provider’s euro stakes as NZ account limits.
- Assuming Bonus Pop is enabled everywhere.
- Assuming that a guaranteed expanded Wild ensures a positive result.
The solution is a labelled pre-expansion grid and a separate calculation for each winning group.
Who Big Brown may suit
Big Brown may appeal to readers who like larger grids and features whose effect can be decomposed into visible steps. The contrast between expansion and multiplication gives the game more analytical depth than a single generic Wild.
It may be less suitable for someone who wants conventional drawn paylines or does not want to distinguish two similar bear symbols. The live help should be readable before committing a stake, especially on mobile.
Final assessment
The game’s main lesson is precision: Brown Bear expands, Raging Bear expands and can double a substituted win, and several Raging Bears can multiply their effects. Free Games guarantee an expanding-Wild element but not a positive return.
Endorphina’s public page supports the structural facts and 96.08% reference. The operator build must confirm New Zealand access, currency, actual RTP, stake ladder and optional controls.

How to verify the version you can actually open
A provider page proves that a title exists and describes the supplier's intended rules. It does not prove that a casino accepts players in New Zealand, that the title is enabled for a particular account, or that the highest published RTP is the version in the lobby. Treat availability, operator eligibility and product configuration as three separate checks.
Start with identity, then configuration
Open the game only through the authenticated casino lobby. The information or help panel should identify Endorphina, the exact title and the active mathematical return. Compare the reel or grid layout, paylines or cluster rules, named features and symbol behaviour with the official product material. Similar artwork or a matching title is not enough when the help file is missing or inconsistent.
When the supplier publishes several RTP values, report all of them as configurations. Do not assume the highest option is deployed. RTP is a theoretical long-run measure across a very large number of rounds; it is not a refund rate for one player and cannot predict the next result. Volatility is different: it describes how unevenly results are distributed on the provider's scale.
Read stake controls as money, not interface decoration
Provider sheets often quote a reference range in euros. That range does not establish New Zealand-dollar support or the limits in a specific account. Before a paid round, identify the total amount that will leave the balance. If the interface separates denomination, coins and lines, verify the combined total. If Extra Bet is active, calculate its full cost before pressing spin.
Feature-buy prices are multiples of the current bet, not promised returns. A 100x purchase at a $1 stake costs $100; at a $2 stake it costs $200. Availability can vary by market and some mathematical configurations may not support the control. If the live help does not explain the price, delivered feature and active RTP, leave the option unused.
Keep simulation figures in their proper scope
A game sheet may publish a maximum result observed in a large simulation. That is not automatically the contractual maximum payout and never describes a likely session. Preserve the provider's wording, sample size and configuration. Check the live rules for a binding cap and the operator terms for any separate payout limit. Do not turn an extreme result into a promotional headline.
Audit a disputed round
If an animation freezes or a connection drops, do not repeat the wager immediately. Reopen the game through the authenticated lobby and inspect round history. Record the time, total stake, balance movement and round identifier. The result can be settled by the gaming system even when the device never displays the final animation. Send evidence through verified operator support; never disclose a password, recovery phrase or one-time code.
Read the paytable as a calculation document
The paytable should explain what creates a win, which symbols substitute, where special symbols can land and how multiple awards combine. For line games, confirm direction and active paylines. For cluster games, confirm adjacency, minimum group size and the order of collection. For respins, identify what remains locked, what resets the counter and what ends the feature. A graphic effect can illustrate those rules but cannot replace them.
Separate addition from multiplication. Several prize values may be added before a multiplier applies, while reel-specific multipliers can sometimes multiply together only when each reel participates in the same win. Reconstruct one low-stake result from game history. If the arithmetic cannot be matched to the help file, stop and ask the operator rather than guessing.
Do not confuse hit frequency with a profitable round
Provider sheets can publish hit frequency or category probabilities. A hit simply means a round returned a qualifying amount; it can be smaller than the stake. “Big”, “Mega” or “Epic” thresholds are provider reporting categories, not promises. They are useful for comparing mathematical versions only when definitions and samples are the same.
Random outcomes do not become due after a long gap. A feature that appeared repeatedly in a demo or marketing clip has no obligation to repeat in a funded session. Previous rounds do not create a debt from the next random result.
Confirm market and device behaviour independently
A title can exist in the supplier catalogue while an operator disables it for a territory, currency, device or bonus. Language localisation is not evidence of legal availability. Confirm the operator's identity, accepted countries and current lobby separately from the provider review.
On mobile, verify that balance, total bet, feature state and help remain visible without overlap. On desktop, check that browser zoom does not hide a purchase control or change the apparent denomination. Mathematical configuration should not change merely because the screen changes; if the help shows another RTP, treat it as a different deployment and record it.
Keep a compact evidence record
For any fact used in a review, save the title, provider, official URL, document date when available, access date and exact territorial scope. For a live session, add the operator domain, Game ID, RTP, currency and a non-sensitive screenshot of the help panel. This makes later corrections possible when a supplier updates a sheet or an operator changes configuration.
Missing information should remain missing. Do not estimate an RTP from results, convert a euro reference range into an operator's NZD limit, or treat another casino's configuration as evidence. A transparent “not confirmed” is more useful than a precise-looking number without the correct source.
Use limits that survive the feature design
Collection meters, expanding grids, sticky symbols and near misses can make a session feel unfinished. Unless the rules explicitly preserve progress, the visible state has no value after the round or feature ends. Set a money limit and time limit before launch, count feature buys immediately, and stop at the limit even when a meter appears close to an upgrade.
No random game is an income plan. Do not borrow, use essential funds or raise the stake to recover a loss. If play stops feeling recreational, use timeout, deposit-limit or self-exclusion tools and consult the site's responsible gambling guide.
Primary source and correction path
This guide separates documented product information from market availability. Check the official source and the game help inside the exact version offered before making a decision.
