THE Oil Barons three-feature rules

A source-led separation of Sticky-Wild free spins, Contract Bid, the two-stage Gusher and Face Off reel multipliers.

Betsoft lists THE Oil Barons as live from 12 August 2026. The official page publishes five reels, five rows, 15 paylines, 96.29% RTP, very high volatility, a 19.18% hit rate and a maximum win of 12,500x stake.

Three separate triggers lead to three different features: Struck Oil, Contract Bid and The Gusher. Face Off symbols provide another multiplier mechanism. They should not be compressed into a single generic free-spin description.

Struck Oil

Three or more Struck Oil symbols in the base game award 10 free spins with Sticky Wilds. Record the trigger positions, starting counter and every Wild that becomes sticky.

For each spin, distinguish newly landed Wilds from those carried forward. Verify whether stickiness lasts for the entire feature and whether a new Wild changes the spin count; the public summary does not answer those details.

At the final settlement, confirm all sticky state clears before the next paid spin. Use history to separate line wins from any accumulated presentation total.

Contract Bid

Three or more Bid symbols trigger Contract Bid with 10 free spins and frequent Face Off symbols. “Frequent” is descriptive rather than a published probability.

Log every Face Off appearance, its two candidate multipliers and the winner. Compare the winning multiplier with the transformed reel and credited paylines. Do not extrapolate a frequency from a short sample.

Contract Bid is mechanically different from Struck Oil: the first emphasises Face Off reels, while the second documents Sticky Wilds. Keep separate audit sheets.

The Gusher: stage one

Three or more Gusher symbols start a two-stage event. Stage one awards three respins. Only Wilds and Multipliers appear alongside non-paying symbols, and every new Wild or Multiplier resets the counter to three.

Create a collection ledger with symbol type, value, coordinate and reset. Non-paying symbols should not be counted as locked value. When no new qualifying object lands, reduce the counter by one.

Preserve the final collected set before stage two begins. That snapshot is the bridge between the two stages and makes later scattering checkable.

The Gusher: stage two

Stage two provides three free spins. All Wilds and Multipliers gathered in stage one are scattered randomly across the reels on every spin.

Record each placement afresh because positions need not persist. Compare the quantity of scattered objects with the saved collection. If Help permits overlaps or exclusions, document how they affect the visible count.

Do not treat stage-one collection as credited money. Value is resolved only through the stage-two reel outcomes and final settlement.

Face Off reel transformation

Each Face Off symbol expands over its whole reel and reveals two multipliers. The winning multiplier applies to the reel, which then becomes Wild.

Capture both candidates, the winner, the reel index and all paylines crossing that reel. The reel-wide Wild transformation happens alongside multiplier application, so both effects belong to the same settlement record.

Wild normally substitutes for all symbols except Bonus and Face Off. Do not use it to replace an excluded trigger when recreating a line.

Paytable and maximum

Fifteen paylines across a five-by-five grid make route diagrams essential. Save direction, matching length and symbol values from live Help. The public page does not expose the complete paytable.

The published 12,500x maximum is a cap, not a likely result and not a guaranteed feature potential. Confirm whether the deployed rules describe cap handling, including whether a round ends immediately after reaching it.

Stake limits and feature prices are not published on the accessible provider page. Leave them unavailable rather than borrowing values from another market.

Buy Bonus

Betsoft describes a purchase button allowing the player to select Struck Oil, Contract Bid or The Gusher. The global description does not prove local availability.

If enabled, capture the chosen feature, price, active RTP, stake basis and cancellation route. Compare the credited feature with the selection. Any separate RTP must be reported independently.

Purchase is an in-game wager, not a promotional bonus. New Zealand and 22Bet access require authenticated operator evidence.

RTP and risk reading

The published RTP is 96.29%, volatility is very high and hit rate is 19.18%. The three values answer different questions and cannot predict one session.

Very high volatility and a 12,500x cap indicate a broad outcome structure, not a promise of large wins. A 19.18% hit may include awards smaller than stake.

Keep stake, ordinary paylines, sticky-Wild lines, Face Off multiplier, Gusher stage-two results and final credit in separate columns. Short observation verifies rules, not probability.

Mobile and continuity

On mobile, verify all five rows and the full-reel Face Off overlay fit without clipping. During The Gusher, ensure the respin counter and collected objects remain readable.

After reconnect, compare sticky Wilds, collected stage-one objects and remaining spins with history. Never place an extra wager solely to test restoration.

Accessibility checks include contrast, numeric multiplier labels, focusable Help, reduced motion and a non-colour-only distinction between Wild, Multiplier and non-paying objects.

Evidence checklist

  • Match exact title and Betsoft label.
  • Confirm 96.29% in active Help.
  • Record the five-by-five grid and 15 lines.
  • Preserve the 12,500x cap wording.
  • Map the Struck Oil trigger and ten spins.
  • Track every Sticky Wild.
  • Map the Bid trigger and ten Contract Bid spins.
  • Save both Face Off multipliers and the winner.
  • Map the Gusher trigger.
  • Record every stage-one respin reset.
  • Save the final Wild and Multiplier collection.
  • Check all three stage-two scatter layouts.
  • Apply Wild exclusions correctly.
  • Capture purchase terms only if shown.
  • Keep local availability unconfirmed without operator evidence.

Verdict

Comparing the three entry routes

Use a trigger matrix before testing. Struck Oil requires at least three matching symbols and opens ten Sticky-Wild spins. Contract Bid also requires at least three matching symbols but opens ten spins centred on Face Off appearances. The Gusher requires at least three Gusher symbols and begins with three resetting respins before three scattering spins. A screenshot of one trigger cannot support claims about another.

This matrix also prevents terminology drift. The Gusher’s first stage is a respin collection, not ordinary free spins. Its second stage is free spins, but collected objects are redistributed on every result rather than remaining sticky. Struck Oil is the documented Sticky-Wild mode. Contract Bid uses frequent Face Off symbols without publishing a frequency.

Worked Face Off record

For a Face Off on reel four, save the two candidate multipliers, selected value, reel transformation and all 15-line routes that cross reel four. Record the pre-feature symbol beneath the overlay if history exposes it. Then calculate the ordinary line award and the multiplier effect in the order specified by Help.

If two Face Off symbols land, do not assume their multipliers add or multiply together. The public page describes each symbol but does not settle every simultaneous case. Capture both animations and use the official round breakdown. Mark the interaction unavailable when history lacks sufficient detail.

Cap and responsible limits

The 12,500x figure is a maximum multiplier relative to stake. It is not a balance guarantee, typical outcome or reason to increase stake. A personal loss limit should be set in currency before play and should not expand because a feature meter or Gusher collection looks promising.

Very high volatility makes short sessions particularly unsuitable for judging the mathematical profile. Stop decisions should use actual wallet movement, not the number of Wilds collected or the dramatic size of an industrial animation.

If the deployed rules enforce the maximum mid-round, save the wording that explains how remaining animations or features are handled. Without that statement, report only the provider’s headline cap and avoid guessing at settlement order.

Missing deployment facts

The provider page does not establish minimum or maximum stake, purchase prices, feature probabilities, individual symbol pays or New Zealand access. It also does not confirm which operator builds expose all three purchase choices.

Those omissions are not defects in the review. They identify the exact information a reader must retrieve from live Help before a paid decision. Dated screenshots allow the page to be corrected when configuration changes.

THE Oil Barons requires feature-specific reporting. Sticky Wilds, frequent Face Offs and a collect-then-scatter sequence are three different rule systems, despite sharing the same industrial theme.

The official source supplies strong top-level mechanics and a maximum cap, but exact line pays, probabilities, stake limits and purchase prices remain deployment facts. A reliable review preserves that division.

How to verify the version you can actually open

A provider page proves that a title exists and describes the supplier's intended rules. It does not prove that a casino accepts players in New Zealand, that the title is enabled for a particular account, or that the highest published RTP is the version in the lobby. Treat availability, operator eligibility and product configuration as three separate checks.

Start with identity, then configuration

Open the game only through the authenticated casino lobby. The information or help panel should identify Betsoft, the exact title and the active mathematical return. Compare the reel or grid layout, paylines or cluster rules, named features and symbol behaviour with the official product material. Similar artwork or a matching title is not enough when the help file is missing or inconsistent.

When the supplier publishes several RTP values, report all of them as configurations. Do not assume the highest option is deployed. RTP is a theoretical long-run measure across a very large number of rounds; it is not a refund rate for one player and cannot predict the next result. Volatility is different: it describes how unevenly results are distributed on the provider's scale.

Read stake controls as money, not interface decoration

Provider sheets often quote a reference range in euros. That range does not establish New Zealand-dollar support or the limits in a specific account. Before a paid round, identify the total amount that will leave the balance. If the interface separates denomination, coins and lines, verify the combined total. If Extra Bet is active, calculate its full cost before pressing spin.

Feature-buy prices are multiples of the current bet, not promised returns. A 100x purchase at a $1 stake costs $100; at a $2 stake it costs $200. Availability can vary by market and some mathematical configurations may not support the control. If the live help does not explain the price, delivered feature and active RTP, leave the option unused.

Keep simulation figures in their proper scope

A game sheet may publish a maximum result observed in a large simulation. That is not automatically the contractual maximum payout and never describes a likely session. Preserve the provider's wording, sample size and configuration. Check the live rules for a binding cap and the operator terms for any separate payout limit. Do not turn an extreme result into a promotional headline.

Audit a disputed round

If an animation freezes or a connection drops, do not repeat the wager immediately. Reopen the game through the authenticated lobby and inspect round history. Record the time, total stake, balance movement and round identifier. The result can be settled by the gaming system even when the device never displays the final animation. Send evidence through verified operator support; never disclose a password, recovery phrase or one-time code.

Read the paytable as a calculation document

The paytable should explain what creates a win, which symbols substitute, where special symbols can land and how multiple awards combine. For line games, confirm direction and active paylines. For cluster games, confirm adjacency, minimum group size and the order of collection. For respins, identify what remains locked, what resets the counter and what ends the feature. A graphic effect can illustrate those rules but cannot replace them.

Separate addition from multiplication. Several prize values may be added before a multiplier applies, while reel-specific multipliers can sometimes multiply together only when each reel participates in the same win. Reconstruct one low-stake result from game history. If the arithmetic cannot be matched to the help file, stop and ask the operator rather than guessing.

Do not confuse hit frequency with a profitable round

Provider sheets can publish hit frequency or category probabilities. A hit simply means a round returned a qualifying amount; it can be smaller than the stake. “Big”, “Mega” or “Epic” thresholds are provider reporting categories, not promises. They are useful for comparing mathematical versions only when definitions and samples are the same.

Random outcomes do not become due after a long gap. A feature that appeared repeatedly in a demo or marketing clip has no obligation to repeat in a funded session. Previous rounds do not create a debt from the next random result.

Confirm market and device behaviour independently

A title can exist in the supplier catalogue while an operator disables it for a territory, currency, device or bonus. Language localisation is not evidence of legal availability. Confirm the operator's identity, accepted countries and current lobby separately from the provider review.

On mobile, verify that balance, total bet, feature state and help remain visible without overlap. On desktop, check that browser zoom does not hide a purchase control or change the apparent denomination. Mathematical configuration should not change merely because the screen changes; if the help shows another RTP, treat it as a different deployment and record it.

Keep a compact evidence record

For any fact used in a review, save the title, provider, official URL, document date when available, access date and exact territorial scope. For a live session, add the operator domain, Game ID, RTP, currency and a non-sensitive screenshot of the help panel. This makes later corrections possible when a supplier updates a sheet or an operator changes configuration.

Missing information should remain missing. Do not estimate an RTP from results, convert a euro reference range into an operator's NZD limit, or treat another casino's configuration as evidence. A transparent “not confirmed” is more useful than a precise-looking number without the correct source.

Use limits that survive the feature design

Collection meters, expanding grids, sticky symbols and near misses can make a session feel unfinished. Unless the rules explicitly preserve progress, the visible state has no value after the round or feature ends. Set a money limit and time limit before launch, count feature buys immediately, and stop at the limit even when a meter appears close to an upgrade.

No random game is an income plan. Do not borrow, use essential funds or raise the stake to recover a loss. If play stops feeling recreational, use timeout, deposit-limit or self-exclusion tools and consult the site's responsible gambling guide.

Primary source and correction path

This guide separates documented product information from market availability. Check the official source and the game help inside the exact version offered before making a decision.
